Over the years, I’ve come across dozens of productivity tactics. Many sound good in theory but fall short in practice. But a select few are genuine game changers. Today I want to share one of my favorites. Takes sip of tea for suspense... I call it Productivity Drop Sets. In the gym, a drop set means you start with a heavy weight and lift until you can’t do any more reps with good form. Then you lower the weight a little and keep going. You can repeat this a few times, each time dropping the weight. The point isn’t to exhaust yourself or make the workout longer. It’s to stimulate more muscle growth and get better results in less time. Now apply the same idea to your productivity. Start with the hardest, most mentally demanding task while your “muscles” are fresh. Then move to something a bit easier. Keep lowering the difficulty until you finish with the lightest tasks. When you do this a few things happen:
The key is starting heavy. If you "warm up" with easy tasks, you waste energy and make the hard ones feel even harder. And in most cases, the hardest tasks are the ones that actually move the needle. So next time you plan your day, ask yourself: What requires the most energy and willpower? Start there, then work your way down. I cover more tactics like this in my upcoming course, Purposeful Productivity. No gimmicks. Just simple, sustainable methods that genuinely work.
