How to Stop Wasting Time (simple method)

Toward the end of college, I fell down the rabbit hole of productivity.

Like many newborn productivity nerds, I quickly realized that time was my most valuable resource…

And I had been wasting a lot of it.

As a fresh grad, I didn’t have much money to lose, but I did have time. And I became obsessed with saving every bit of it.

Custom keyboard shortcuts.
Organized desk setups.
Meticulous time-blocked calendars.

Every optimization I could think of to squeeze more juice out of the day.

At first, it felt like progress.

Each little optimization felt like a deposit into the bank of my lifespan.

But eventually, I realized I had it backward.

The real waste of time isn’t moving slower than you could.

It’s moving quickly in the wrong direction.

For example if you had a goal to speak basic Japanese before a trip to Tokyo, you could spend hours watching anime with subtitles OR the same time studying the 1,000 most common words and phrases.

Even if you don’t use the “perfect” study system, simply choosing the latter will save you sooo much time because it is the more effective action to reach your goal.

The most important part of productivity isn't how efficiently you do things, but whether you are doing the right things in the first place.

Doing that requires three steps:

  1. Know what your life vision and goals actually are.
  2. Identify the actions that make the biggest impact.
  3. Build simple systems so you can take those actions consistently.

This is easier said than done.

Which is why it’s one of the core lessons in my upcoming course, Purposeful Productivity.

Instead of wasting time chasing efficiency, you’ll learn how to build simple systems that align your actions with your goals.
