Hey Reader,
I hope the fall season has been going well for you.
Despite being done with school for many years now, this time of year still feels like the time to focus and work hard.
My younger sister, who is more in touch with the youth, informed me that there's even a trend on social media about now being the "The Great Lock In of 2025."
Did I miss the memo? Since when have we ever NOT been locked in??
But seriously, I do agree that the fall is a great time to focus in on the key projects that will move the needle in your personal or professional life.
So what will I be doing for the rest of the year?
Well, I'll be taking some time off 😅
Huh? What happened to being "locked in?"
Yes yes don't worry I'll only be gone for a week.
My family and I are taking a trip to London and I'm bloody excited... bruv.
(Says in a flawless British accent)
Despite being 42.6% British according to 23andMe, this is my first time visiting the UK.
I guess you could call it a homecoming?? (Let me know if you have any recommendations)
I'm intentionally taking this time off because I actually just finished up a season of being "locked in."
You see, rather than limiting myself to just one intense period of hustling during the last few months of the year, I prefer to take a more sustainable approach to productivity.
I disregard which month or day of the week it is and instead decide a specific 3 month period to lock in on a handful of important projects.
During this period I tune out distractions, stop taking on new obligations, and allocate as much energy as possible to the 1-3 initiatives that I've picked for that period.
Then, in between those 3 month sprints I'll take some time off, travel, recharge, and reflect on my progress before starting another season of focus.
So for example, back in June of this year I enjoyed some time off in Hawaii and then was "locked in" from early July through now.
Me over caffeinated on Kona coffee back in June
Once I get back from London I'll likely start another sprint from late October through early January.
I enjoy this approach because it allows me to start fresh, recalibrate my focus, and get a boost in motivation multiple times throughout the year.
Since I don't worry about aligning these periods with the start of the year, the fiscal quarters, or some social media trend, I feel wayyy more in control of how my life operates.
But when I am in a season of focus, I don't mess around and follow the wise words of a world famous British literary scholar from West-London:
"I treat every day like a Monday morning, I treat every month like a January" - Oakley Neil Caesar-Su
Have a productive week!
